2018 marks the 50th year of Catholic Charities in Southwest Florida. Judy Sullivan started Catholic Charities with a grant from United Way and the Archdiocese of Miami, back in 1968 before the Diocese of Venice was even born.
Catholic Charities provides social services to individuals and families in need regardless of their race, nationality, or creed. A person does NOT need to be Catholic to use their services. Recently, Catholic Charities of Collier County partnered with St. Peter’s Ministry Center after the destruction of Hurricane Irma. In two weeks’ time they distributed over 895,000 lbs. of food, water and supplies to more than 23,000 people in need.
Catholic Charities began its partnership with Palm Printing and The Print Shop & More when their Director of Marketing, Tim Philbrick, served on its Board of Advisers. “It was impressive what they achieve and the scale in which they achieve it” said Tim. “Not just in Collier County, but in all of Southwest Florida.”
This year Catholic Charities is celebrating their legacy! A Ribbon Cutting and Blessing of their newly renovated Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center, located in the former Social Security building on the East Trail across from the Govt. Center, will be on Thursday, March 8 at 10:30. The Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center will assist the poor and working poor of Naples with basic needs through their Choice Food Pantry, direct assistance for utilities and prescriptions, as well as help families get on the road to self-sufficiency by removing barriers to full time employment with their Empowerment Program. They will also provide weekend food for many of the 1200 homeless and hungry children in Greater Naples, holiday food and the Undy Sunday project.
The Emerald Ball, their annual fundraiser, is March 24 at the Ritz Carlton at the Beach, and all are invited. Please visit www.catholiccharitiesdov.org and click on 2018 Emerald Ball for additional information and ticket sales. See their auction items and buy now! The evening includes Dinner and Dancing, Giving from the Heart, a Live Auction, a Silent Auction, and new this year, a Wine Pull!
Our hats are off to Catholic Charities of Collier County! Congratulations on providing such needed services to so many in Collier County!
